Mirror version of plan

I've mirror imaged this in a graphics package and even turned round the important text, so you can get a better impression of the new orientation.

The photo of the sitting room was taken from about point B (at the top of the plan) towards SW.
The photo of the front door is taken from the inside of the Utility Room I think.

I think that I've got this sorted. The second picture is taken along the line of the top wall, which I am assuming is the north wall of the house, as I haven't found a north point.

Some lovely autumnal colour in the first piccie.

By the way, may we have a definitive way of pronouncing Coille etc?

Coille: oi is like the "eu" in "deux", sort of; the double l has a twist in it, almost a y sound after the l, but not quite; the e is sounded.

Tiodhlag: tio is chi; dhl is a very hard l, so hard that you nearly sound a d in front of it. You produce it by pressing your tongue hard against the palate whilst saying "l", and kind of gulping first. But "chillag" is a sort of approximation.

eh?

Just try it. Actually, we haven't finally fixed on a name. Other possibilities are Coille nan Eillt, Coille na Beithe and Coille nan Eiric. Or something in English.

What do these others mean?

Wood of the Burns, Wood of the Birches and Eric's Wood. (After the name of one of the burns, which happens to be Roy's father's name.)

And Andrew's father's name. And Andrew's middle name. Erics abound!

Curlly Chillag (but with the r being sort of liquid & West-Scotlandish rather than Rolling)

Cecilia, I am sending a clipping from Daily Telegraph with pictures of Mary's house.

Super! Someone with a scanner (?Andrew) will digitize them and I'll post them on the website.

It is amazing how many people we know who read the Torygraph. You are the third person to bring it up. Thank you in advance.

Janet said...

We only read it because we were both brought up in houses that took it. Too much creatures of habit to change. Sometimes I take the Birmingham Post, but there's normally more in the Birmingham Mail (the evening paper)

My essential reading is the Oxford Mail. It is just the right length for a lunch break, keeps me up to date on which of my tenants has died or is in court, what scandals are going on on the estates and what the council itself is up to. We found out that way that 3 of our sheltered blocks are being considered for closure . Un fortunately so did the tenants of course which is just plain unkind. My only google hit links to a very dumb quote in the paper. It was not fair as I was asked a question in a public meeting and the reporter jumped on it.

Looks great- real progress being made. What's all this about the Torygraph though, have I missed a link somewhere?

is a weegie a small scottish vegetarian?

Torygraph article has arrived; thank you. I will see if Livy (and Andrew?) can get it scanned when they return from wowing the Smoke.

Just saying you were brought up in a household that took it is not really enough. I was, too, after all. I buy the Times because it has the best Sudokus and because the Indy (which I prefer) was too depressing.

We are going to Glengarry on Monday - we hope with fully charged cameras; so there should be some pictures here next week, when Livy has helped me do the transferring.

Is " wowing the smoke" some Edinburgh druggie thing?

Don't know about Edinburgh druggie things, but a Weegie Urchin is a Glaswegian vegetarian, who is adept at finding neddish marginalia in Medieval Scottish manuscripts 8)
