Windows

The windows are being ordered today. Suddenly, there are urgent decisions to make about what sort of opening and what sort of beading we want. There is a 10 week ordering delay. This tends to suggest that we may have a building with windows by Christmas. Good lord. This might really be happening, somewhere far away from the first week of term and prosecuting crime.

"far away from the first week of term and prosecuting crime"

That sounds like the basis of a fantastic television drama.

Rex is doing "Far from the Madding Crowd" in English. Is they related?

Oh god I remember that book. Give her my sympathy.

It's a sort of parallel universe story. I think Kate and Esther should be adding Act 2 to the Highland opera. What happens is that some Glasgow neds (see the link to the website about them that has been added to Livy's Hoodies story) fall through the back of a magic wardrobe, along with some academics, some first year undergraduates of many nationalities (including but not restricted to Chinese, American and Polish), and a selection of anxious parents, drug dealers, university administrators of various kinds, and end up in a remote Highland glen full of genetically modified boar, black cattle and midges, peat etc.

But a visitor has just arrived so I must leave.

OK someone out there has finally lost it- do we have a contigency plan for this?

Cecilia said...

I assumed that was you, Kate? Do we have a real outsider in this site?

Janet said...

I was assuming that it was Esther.

It's not me...

I think it's Max. Or possibly Kylie.

Kate said...

My guess is Esther. But who Kylie?

Isabella Coloratura is of course a stage name. Acclaimed Best Bard in Six Kingdoms out of Seven. To be met with on Friday nights in Muswell Hill.

Kylie is a friend staying with us in Edinburgh this term to do research in the NLS.

Half the fun of role-playing is picking the character name. I have been amongst others Calvin Horner American journalist( in real life a housing officer),Rev Davis Semple a Scottish missionary on temporary placement with the Bishop of Istanbul while recovering from consumption ( I had to find a way of getting him on the Orient Express following the unexpected death of tourist guide writer during a sword fight in the goods van) , Lady Jocasta Dunharrow ( husband Felix) and personal favourite Fog the Barbarian a generic hack and slash fighter. I should warn the younger generation to ignore any of my recollections come my dotage as the likelhoood is, it didn't happen.

When and where have you been these people? Role playing, on or off line, or in another dimension? You have not been nearly enough of them in this existence.

I am working on Signora Coloratura's entry for the Dictionary of National Biography and would be most grateful for any further information you may have about this most interesting and elusive lady's recent whereabouts.

I have done a mixture of role playing over the years ( though never on line as I just don't have the time to waste these days). Of those listed- Jocasta was a live action role playing character ( LARP) - photos available, Calvin and David ( not Davis) were in Call of Cthulu campaigns- based on books by HP LOvecraft ( good plot ideas but atrocious writing skills) and Fog cropped up all over the place.
