We found this outside this morning. There has been a similar offering there once before; and Ursula found another one on a rock in the stream some months ago. I think it is from a pine marten; but wild cat and polecat are possibilities. I have decided not to sniff it today, thank you, though that is what I know I should do. Can anyone recognise it by sight alone?

Try this site: http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/identify/mammals
If you click on the name links some show scat photos.
We looked at that website this morning. Not conclusive. Or what do you think?
Yeugh! Can you work out what it had been eating?
I will do that later when it stops raining. For now, it is under a bucket.
There's a pole (holding up the brise-soleil) only 18" away. The animal was obviously a pole-cat.
These animals are probably hiding behind a tree wondering what you are doing.
It looks like the fruit and seed snack slices sold by Pret a Manger but rolled up. I suspect a yuppy.
Funny you should say that . . .
do pole cats pole dance?
Apparantly bear droppings are edible. Perhaps you could dry them out and store for use as emergency rations . If we all get ornamental paperweights for Christmas presents I shall assume the worst.
If they were poll cats , your district council could train them to deliver electoral registration documents to outlying settlements, thus saving on wages and lowering the local authority's carbon footprint.
As it happens, we have of course just had those papers delivered. (Into the recycling bin which is our letter box until we have a gatepost to hang a letter box on.) We are fairly sure we cannot have a vote here as we are mere holidayers in the eyes of the registration appeals tribunal.
Signs of passing times. Rebekah now has drivers licence and appears on polling papers. But she hasn't actually had a go at driving yet.
